Your application for the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience
can be submitted completely online beginning in December 2007.
You will need to create a username and password before you begin as
you can complete the application during multiple sessions.
You will need to have two references as part of the application.
Begin securing them now so they have plenty of time to submit their
letter before the application deadline. After you have provided
their names and email addresses as part of your application, they will
receive an email message with instruction on how to submit their letter
online.
Remember that the submission deadline is February 1, 2008.
All applications must be completed by this time. If you begin

| Personal Statement |
- Describe (in 500-750 words) your current and past
interest in science or mathematics, your likelihood of
earning a degree in science, technology, engineering or
mathematics (STEM), and reasons why you might choose to
major in a non-STEM area (be specific).

| Eligibility and Review Criteria |
- Applications will be reviewed and participants
selected for the program based on the academic merit of
the candidate and the potential for this to be a
transformational experience for the candidate.
- Academic history - strengths, weaknesses, trends,
signs of improvement
- Letters of reference - knowledge of the applicant,
opinion of ability to benefit, to be successful and for
this to be a transformational experience
- Personal statement - writing style, scope of
response, understanding of program, ability to
articulate message, importance of experience to growth
and development
- This program is open to students pursuing an
Associates or Baccalaureate degree in Science,
Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (e.g.,
Agriculture Science, Biology, Chemistry, computer
Science, Mathematics, Physics, etc).
- Participants must be US Citizens or Permanent
Residents
- Participants must be enrolled and in good academic
standing at one of the program partner schools for
Spring 2008 and must be continuing at the school in Fall
2008 or intend to transfer to Truman. The program
partner schools are Metropolitan Community College,
Moberly Area Community College, St. Charles Community
College, Truman State University.
