The overarching goal of The Next STEP grant is to increase the number of students who complete a baccalaureate degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) discipline. At Truman State University we partnered with three community colleges (Metropolitan Community Colleges, Moberly Area Community College and St. Charles Community College) to develop and implement The Next STEP initiatives.
In an effort to ensure the success of students who transfer to Truman, we have developed a program to orient, advise and mentor incoming transfer students. With the knowledge that an emphasis on undergraduate research is a critical component to student success, we developed an intensive, interdisciplinary research experience. Following an extensive review of literature and best practices, we enhanced the interdisciplinary connections within the STEM disciplines through innovative curriculum developments.
