Calming Anxiety while Learning Mathematics

Project Description

Mathematics anxiety has long been thought an important issue to consider when designing and assessing broad appeal mathematics and mathematically related courses (such as Physics, Economics, or Statistics). But, does it really have a relationship with performance in those classes? We have collected a variety of data, both at Truman and at Moberly Area Community College (MACC). A mix of quantitative and qualitatives methods will be used to analyze this data in new ways and develop a picture of the participants in our research.

I can work with researchers with a wide variety of backgrounds, from those with only a single statistics course to those with much more experience. Those with more mathematics might be more interested in modeling results, while those with less might be more interested in the instrument design or data collection side. Those interested in teaching after graduate school might be especially interested in this project.

Background Needed

Successful completion of a course on statistics.
