Students participating in the The Next STEP have the opportunity to attend a coordinated workshop series as part of the Bridge Program and the academic year Undergraduate Research Program. The workshop series is designed for, and open to, all science, technology, mathematics, and engineering majors and faculty. Students who are participating in the Bridge Program and/or participated in the previous summer’s undergraduate research experience, either on- or off-campus, are required to attend. Workshops are offered monthly, and each workshop focuses on a particular topic. For example, topics include some the following: professional development, study and testing skills, graduate education and applying to graduate school, working with mentors and advisors, keeping a research notebook, conduction interdisciplinary research, research ethics, women and underrepresented groups in science and math, writing grant proposals, writing a curriculum vitae, and preparing for conference presentations. Sessions are also dedicated to project updates from student researchers and reviewing the work of visiting scholars and presenters.
Dinner is provided at each workshop.
