MoLSAMP Opportunity


 

MoLSAMP Research Program at Mizzou. Scholars from Alliance institutions are eligible to participate in this summer research experience at the University of Missouri – Columbia and will receive a $4,000 stipend, free room and board in an MU residence hall, travel support to Columbia if needed, and one hour of research credit. A 3.0 GPA is required, and the program is open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Research areas include (but are not limited to) engineering sciences, chemistry, physiology & neurobiology, plant sciences, physics & astronomy, math & statistics, geology, computer science & informatics, immunology, animal sciences, ecology & natural resources, bioengineering, biochemistry, cell & molecular biology, and genetics.

Students must complete the application form and provide an unofficial transcript (including Fall semester grades); at least one letter of recommendation (two preferred); a resume; and a personal statement indicating career plans, prior research experience; a statement of research interests; and a letter of endorsement from your MoLSAMP site director. If completed online, most documents will be submitted with the online application. For application packets sent via e-mail, the application form and other documents may be sent to ugr@missouri.edu. Letters of recommendation may be sent directly to the Office of Undergraduate Research via e-mail. National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU). Various research opportunities all over the country at host institutions.  Visit the website and search by your area of interest and/or destination state.  Deadlines are site specific.

Marshall University Summer Research Internship for Undergraduate Minority Students. Biomedical Sciences research opportunity at Marshall University.

American Mathematical Society. List of summer REUs that focus on mathematics and computer science. Various research opportunities all over the country at host institutions. Deadlines are site specific.

U.S. Department of Energy Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship Program (MLEF).  The Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) Program provides students with an opportunity to gain and develop research skills with the Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy for 10 weeks over the summer. The goal of the program is to improve opportunities for women and minority students in these fields, however all eligible candidates are encouraged to apply.  Stipends are $7,500 and eligible Fellows will receive an additional travel and housing allowance. 

U.S. Department of Energy Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program. The Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program encourages undergraduate students to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers by providing research experiences, under the guidance of laboratory/facility staff scientists or engineers, on projects supporting the DOE mission. 

DAAD RISE International Research Experience for Undergraduates. Summer research experience in Chemistry in Germany

The WAVE Fellows Program at California Institute of Technology (Caltech) provides support for talented undergraduates intent on pursuing a Ph.D. to conduct a 10-week summer research project. Students must be current sophomores through non-graduating seniors, U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents and have a minimum GPA of 3.2. WAVE Fellows will receive a $7,740 award for the ten-week program. An additional $2,260 housing and travel supplement will be provided.

Caltech’s Amgen Scholars Program is geared towards students in biology, chemistry, and biotechnology fields. Students must be current sophomores through non-graduating seniors, must be attending a four-year university in the US, and have a minimum GPA of 3.2. Amgen Scholars will receive a $5,500 award, round-trip air transportation, campus housing, and a food allowance. University of Nebraska-Lincoln Summer Research Programs  Ten-week programs for U.S. citizens or permanent residents in a variety of fields including math, chemistry, physics and biology.  Competitive stipends, room, board, and travel are provided.  Preference given to students from underrepresented groups, those planning to pursue graduate school and students from schools where research programs are limited. 

TECBio (Training and Experimentation in Computational Biology). 10-week summer program sponsored by the NSF that focuses on computational biology. Provides a $6,250 stipend, housing, travel, and VR equipment.

Wadsworth Center: New York State Department of Health.  Albany, NY.  Research focuses on molecular and cell biology. Provides a $5,250 stipend, food allowance, and travel. 

Mayo Clinic. Offers a 10-week summer research program and is located in Rochester, MN.  Provides a $6,000 stipend for the summer.  Various research topics in the area of biomedical sciences and you can even create and conduct your own project.

The Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience offers a summer research program in St. Augustine, FL. Variety of research topics.  

REU in Physics at Lehigh University offers a 10-week summer program in Bethlehem, PA for physics and engineering majors in their sophomore and junior years. Research topics include astrophysics, biophysics, condensed matter physics, nanoscience, high energy nuclear/particle physics, materials science, photonics, physics education, plasma physics, and statistical physics.

Texas A&M University Department of Chemistry REU Summer Research Program offers a 10-week summer research program located in College Station, TX.  A stipend of $6,000, free housing, travel allowance, and $650 for meals. Program is targeted at advanced chemistry students. Variety of chemistry research topics available.  

The Danforth Center Summer Internships in Plant Biology Program. This 10-week program provides its applicants vast research opportunities including Abiotic Stress, Biofortification, Cell Biology, Cellular Signaling, and many more.  The program provides a $6,000 stipend, $500 for travel expenses, $15/day for food expenses, and living arrangements. The Danforth Center is located in St. Louis, MO. They particularly look for freshman and sophomore students.

Bayer Student Opportunities. Bayer provides its applicants with vast research opportunities.

Oracle Cerner Internship Program. CERNER offers internships for students in areas including, Software Engineering, System Engineering, Business Consulting, and Delivery Consulting.  Competitive salary and housing options. This internship is located in Kansas City.

Stowers Summer Scholars Program.  The Stowers Institute of Medicine offers a program that provides its applicants vast research opportunities including, stem cell and growth research, neuroscience research, Cell Biology, and many more. The program provides its applicants with a $5,000 stipend, travel expenses, and housing options. Stowers Institute is located in Kansas City, Mo.

Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences: Gulf of Maine and the World Ocean Research Experience. A ten-week summer program studying marine biology and ocean science. Participants get a competitive stipend, food and housing allowance, and support for travel and supplies. 

University of Delaware Marine Science Summer Program. This REU program focuses on guided research in marine science. The 10-week marine science internship program takes place at the University of Delaware’s College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment in the resort community of the Hugh R. Sharp Campus in Lewes. Provides a $6,900 stipend, free housing, and travel assistance.

Missouri Botanical Gardens. Offer both paid and unpaid internships in a variety of areas. 

MDNR (Missouri Department of Natural Resources) Summer Professional Development Program. Students gain experience working with DNR professionals.

American Chemical Society’s Nuclear and Radiochemistry Summer Schools. The Division of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology of the American Chemical Society (ACS) sponsors two INTENSIVE six-week Summer Schools in Nuclear and Radiochemistry for undergraduates. The Schools are held at Brookhaven National Laboratory (Eastern Site, Long Island, NY) and San Jose State University (Western Site, San Jose, CA). Funding is provided by the US Department of Energy.  Candidates should be undergraduates with an interest in nuclear science who are presently in their sophomore or junior year of study at a US college or university. They should have completed at least two years of chemistry, one year of physics and one year of calculus. Participants review a $4,000 stipend, free tuition and fees, transportation, housing, books, and laboratory supplies.

University of Rochester Department of Chemistry Research for Medicine and Energy REU: Research problems are available across the broad landscape of contemporary chemical research: structure, mechanism, dynamics, synthesis, spectroscopy and theory; inorganic, organic, organometallic, physical, biological, polymer, nuclear and environmental chemistry. Underrepresented minority students and women are especially encouraged to apply. 

Plant Genomics at Michigan State University. Laboratory and computational opportunities in the field of plant genomics in a 10-week program. Participants receive a $6,000 stipend, housing and meals, and travel support. 

The University of Michigan Frankel Cardiovascular Center Summer Undergraduate Fellowship program. This 10-week program supports undergraduate students who are interested in cardiovascular research. Participants are paid $15/hour for 10 40-hour weeks.

Coastal Marine Education and Research Academy (CMERA) Summer research program in Clearwater, FL. Spend 6-8 hours a day on a research vessel studying marine biology. No experience needed and students of all levels can apply. Course credit is available, but participants must pay for tuition, housing, and most transportation.
