Summer2019 – Nine scholars engaged in full-time research opportunities at Truman, Washington University in St. Louis, or the University of Missouri – Columbia. Two scholars engaged in part-time research opportunities at Truman and the University of Missouri – Columbia. Three scholars were selected for the Summer Sophomore STEM Institute, held at Harris-Stowe State University.
Spring 2019 – Although the program lost a few scholars to major changes, we gained three scholars to continue with a program size of 24. 12 scholars and two staff attended the Emerging Researchers National Conference in Washington, DC in February. Alyssa Tipler, sophomore Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major, won a travel scholarship to present her research at the conference. Six scholars and one staff attended the Second Annual MOLSAMP Undergraduate Research Symposium in Jefferson City in March, where Alyssa presented both an oral and poster presentation of her work and won first place for her poster! Senior Chemistry major Ari Vera attended the American Chemical Society National Conference in Orlando, Florida to present a research poster. 13 scholars applied for 23 research funding opportunities, leading to 14 acceptances! Alyssa Tipler, sophomore Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major, was awarded as an American Chemical Society Scholar, a competitive national scholarship – perhaps the first time for a Truman student! Academic trainers were recruited to begin work in the Fall 2019 semester.
Fall 2018 – The program grew in size by officially adding 12 freshmen participants, increasing the program size to 24 scholars! Although the Academic Advisor was out on maternity leave for a large part of the semester, MOLSAMP scholars connected with STEP Scholars in the STEP office and utilized academic trainer services.
Summer 2018 – Six MoLSAMP scholars participated in summer research experiences at Truman State University, the University of Missouri – Columbia, and Washington University in St. Louis. Two participated in two funded research opportunities each! Connections were made with nineteen incoming freshmen STEM majors interested in joining MoLSAMP in Fall 2018. One MOLSAMP Biology scholar, Frederick Henry, graduated!
Spring 2018 – From the efforts of Fall 2017, fifteen scholars were recruited for the program and began active participation. Ten academic trainers were recruited to assist scholars with Spring 2018 coursework. Eight MOLSAMP scholars applied for more than seventeen funded summer research opportunities through MOLSAMP, NSF, Truman or Ronald E. McNair programs. Nine MOLSAMP scholars attended the first MOLSAMP Undergraduate Research Symposium in St. Louis, Missouri from March 23-24. Devin Hudson, junior Computer Science major, presented his Summer 2017 research from the University of Missouri – Columbia at the MOLSAMP Research Symposium. More than 100 hours of academic training services were utilized by participating scholars.
Fall 2017 – The program hired a full-time academic advisor for MOLSAMP scholars in October 2017. Recruitment of interested and eligible participants began.
